Wade House Field Trips
Travel Through Time
Wisconsin’s largest collection of historic carriages and wagons is yours to explore year ‘round at the Wesley W. Jung Carriage Museum. Weather permitting, check out snowshoes at our visitor center and experience the natural beauty of our grounds via a different form of historic transportation!
Programs are designed for students in grades K-12. All programs must include a 1:15 adult to student ratio.
Know before you go!
Wade House field trips can take place in indoor and outdoor locations. Please dress for the weather and bring a reusable water bottle. Please let Wade House staff know at least one week before your visit of any requested accommodations. Please contact [email protected] with any questions.

Wade House Field Trip
Wade House Field Trips provide hands-on and minds-on experiences for students in grades K-12. During your visit to Wade House Historic Site, your students will immerse themselves in the 19th century. Your tour includes a visit to:
Wade House Stagecoach Inn: Explore the late 19th stagecoach hotel, which served as the business and social center of Greenbush with costumed guides.
Herrling Sawmill: Feel the entire building rumble as the water-powered saw cuts raw timber into lumber.
Dockstader Blacksmith Shop: Hear the ring of the hammer and feel the heat of the forge as the blacksmith shapes iron into useful items for the home and farm.
Horse-drawn Wagon Ride: Enjoy the gentle rock of the wagon as a team of horses transports you back in time to Wade House’s historic area.
Wesley W. Jung Carriage Museum: Build a model horse-drawn and engage with 50 carriages, sleighs, and wagons in Wisconsin’s largest carriage museum.
Wade House Field Trips are available Tuesdays-Fridays May through October and are approximately 4 hours in length. Each field trip includes a break for lunch. Students should bring lunch if they plan to eat on-site. Maximum 200 students per field trip.
Registration fees:
- $6 per student
- $5 per students for economically disadvantaged schools
- $11 per adult chaperone (1 adult chaperone is required for every 15 students)
- Teachers and School Staff received complimentary admission with their class

Wade House Winter Field Trip
Explore the horse-powered world of the 19th century. This hands-on experience takes place in the Wade House Visitor Center and Wesley W. Jung Carriage Museum.
Students participate in a variety of activities including:
- build a plank road
- harness a full-size model horse
- visit a 19th century General Store
- climb into a reproduction Concord stagecoach (and see a real one!)
The winter field trip is available Tuesdays-Fridays in February and March 2026 (except Feb 12 and March 12). The program is two hours in length and is offered twice per day: 9am-11an and 11:30am-1:30pm. Maximum 60 students per session.
Registration fees:
- $5 student
- $4 student from economically disadvantaged schools
- $10 per adult chaperone (1 adult chaperone is required for every 15 students)
- Teachers and School Staff receive complementary admission with their class

A Wade House Christmas Field Trip
Experience the wonder of a 19th century Christmas at Wade House. The historic Wade House Stagecoach Inn halls will be decked out for the holiday season, showcasing how the Wade Family and their many visitors would celebrate the festive season.
Students participate in a variety of activities including:
- See a 19th century Christmas Tree
- Make a craft to take home
- Hear “A Visit from St. Nick”
- Learn the history of Christmas
- Play historic games and sing songs
- Smell historic holiday foods and taste traditional Christmas cookies
- Visit the Blacksmith Shop and see iron Christmas ornaments being made
This field trip lasts 90 minutes and is available from 9:30am-11:00am and Noon-1:30pm. Maximum 60 students per program
