Wisconsin Historical Society Accepting Nominations for 2025 Board of Curators Awards

Wisconsin Historical Society Accepting Nominations for 2025 Board of C | Wisconsin Historical Society

Submissions for the annual awards program must be postmarked by March 10

MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Historical Society's governing body annually recognizes individuals and organizations for exceptional work relating to the Society's mission as part of the Board of Curators Awards. With a range of award categories spanning historic preservation, restoration, genealogy and more, entrants must mail in submissions no later than March 10, 2025, to be considered. The Wisconsin Historical Society will announce award winners this summer.

Nominations will be accepted in the following categories:

  • Book of Merit Award – presented to the author of a book on Wisconsin history which made a valuable contribution to public understanding of Wisconsin's past during the preceding calendar year.
  • Wisconsin Family History Book Award – presented in partnership with the Wisconsin State Genealogical Society, honors the top genealogy history book with substantial Wisconsin interest or connection.
  • Governor's Archives Awards – the Wisconsin Historical Records Advisory Board (WHRAB) co-presents awards in this category focused on historical records and manuscripts in Wisconsin.
  • Historic Preservation and Restoration Awards – recognizes exemplary projects that have preserved or restored a part of Wisconsin's heritage.
  • Museum Exhibit Awards – two awards for historical exhibits with Wisconsin themes are offered each year: one for an exhibition budget $5,000 or less and one for an exhibition budget greater than $5,000.
  • Public Program Award – honors outstanding work in a new Wisconsin history public program.
  • Reuben Gold Thwaites Trophy for Local History – presented annually to a Wisconsin Historical Society affiliate for excellence in service to its community.
