The Wisconsin Department of Administration, Division of Personnel Management, is currently recruiting to fill two (2) part-time, limited term positions to work as a part of the human resources team serving the Wisconsin Historical Society (WHS). These positions will work out of the WHS Headquarters located at 816 State Street in Madison. 

Position Summary

The Wisconsin Historical Society employs 135 classified and unclassified employees and between 150 and 400 (approximately) limited-term employees across 14 different regional work locations, depending upon the time of year. Under the general supervision of the Human Resources Director, this Human Resources Assistant – Advanced is responsible for providing confidential work related to all areas of the human resources office.

The Human Resources Assistant – Advanced makes independent decisions concerning the application of a wide variety of human resources rules, regulations, and procedural guidelines. These positions establish and maintain effective professional relationships with managers, supervisor, coworkers, and all customers while providing exceptional service. These roles require the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information with tact and discretion.

Duties to include:

  • Serve as a human resources representative to managers to support HR processes to include assisting the HR Director with providing correspondence and communication around employee relations, performance management and organizational culture initiatives.
  • Serve as a human resources representative to divisions and managers to support employment hiring processes including providing human resources expertise to supervisors and employees regarding internal WHS policies, civil service procedures, and federal and state employment law.
  • Serve as a human resources representative to internal customers, applicants and external recruitment customers in all aspects of employment processes including providing correspondence and communication to employees and supervisors to drive and facilitate employment processes. 
  • Complete administrative and other duties as assigned.

Salary Information

Pay range is $18.00 - $21.00 per hour. This classification is in schedule and class 81-04.

Please note this is a Limited Term Employment postion so it does not include paid time off or benefits upon hire.


Qualified applicants will have training and/or experience:

  • Working in a Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) (e.g. Peoplesoft, Kronos, Taleo, etc.)
  • Providing administrative support in an office setting
  • Working with confidential or sensitive information or records

Well qualified applicants will also have experience:

  • Reviewing and communicating information related to laws, policies, and/or procedures.
  • Supporting recruitment and/or selection activities.
