Turning Points
in Wisconsin History
An early settler tries to investigate Aztalan in 1838.
Visit to Aztalan, 1838
Recollections by William Sterling in old age of his visit in 1838 to the ancient Indian village at Aztalan, Wisconsin, as reported to Dr. C. V. Porter. Both his fascination with the origin of the mounds and his methods, though we now consider them heavy-handed and insensitive, are typical of his time.
