Regional Conventions
Putting the Spotlight on Local History
Each summer and fall the Wisconsin Historical Society partners with the Wisconsin Council for Local History to sponsor a series of 10 regional conventions. These conventions provide opportunities to connect with local history colleagues and to gain new knowledge throught the sharing of ideas. Each convention features a Regional Roundtable session for exchanging information, seeking solutions, and reporting on the past year's success. Regional conventions also provide participants with training opportunities. In 2008, each convention will feature one of two different presentations, Collections Management Basics or Volunteer Development and Management.
Last, but certainly not least, the conventions offer a chance to explore local history culture through presentations and tours. This year, two regional conventions will offer participants the opportunity to appreciate the recent renovations of two National Register of Historic Places properties: the Timm House in New Holstein, and the Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts in Menomonie. Both projects received funding from the Jeffris Family Foundation.
Below is a full schedule of this year's conventions. Make plans now to attend the convention in your region, or choose the one that best suits your schedule and interests. Registration is open to the general public.
The regional convention schedule continues through September 13 and culminates in the annual state convention of the Wisconsin Council for Local History, to be held jointly with the Wisconsin Historical Society Historic Preservation Conference in Madison on September 26-27, 2008.
