Maps and Atlas Collection
How to Access Maps and Atlases
Except for a small portion of the atlases which can be found by searching MadCat, information about map and atlas holdings is not available online at this time.
A card catalog and guides describing holdings of Sanborn Fire Insurance Company Maps, Wisconsin Land Ownership maps and atlases, and Bird's Eye Views of Wisconsin communities are available in the Archives Research Room.
Requests for information about our holdings may be directed to the map librarian. There is no reference fee for basic "do you have" or "how to" questions. Questions requiring further research will be assessed the Society's normal research fees. Note: The map librarian cannot appraise maps for monetary value.

Reproducing Maps
The society does not sell maps. Topographic maps and reproductions of old maps may be purchased from government agencies or commercial vendors. Increasingly, a variety of maps can be found online, and can often be downloaded for personal use.
Maps and atlases within the Society's holdings can often be photocopied, or reproduced photographically or digitally. Size and condition of individual maps or atlases may limit reproduction options. Contact the map librarian for more information about map reproduction.
The Library of Congress provides a variety of maps online at American Memory - Historical Collections for that National Digital Library. Select "Collection Finder/Maps" for more information.
