Friends of the Wisconsin Historical Society

The Friends of the Wisconsin Historical Society (formerly Women's Auxiliary), founded in 1950, is an independent non-profit volunteer organization whose sole purpose is to assist and support the Society in its program of conserving, advancing, and disseminating knowledge in the field of Wisconsin history.

Objectives of the Friends:

  • To increase public awareness and support of the Society,
  • To promote awareness of the history of Wisconsin,
  • To increase statewide membership in the Friends of the Wisconsin Historical Society and in the Society through educational programs, and
  • To provide support for special projects of the Society

To meet the objectives to enhance the lives of Wisconsin residents (and other individuals interested in Wisconsin history), the Friends sponsor educational tours, luncheons, and other events throughout the state. It publishes a quarterly newsletter, Pillars, which includes information about the Friends and news items about Society programs and projects.

Membership is open to anyone interested in Wisconsin history. Join the Friends to make Wisconsin come alive for you through lectures, workshops, and day trips and overnight tours. Enjoy special membership discounts to historic sites owned by the Society.
