Old World Wisconsin Positions — 2008 Season

Actors Needed for Autumn on the Farm Event: Three male actors needed, ages 20 to 65, for short original production at Old World Wisconsin about the Great Peshtigo Fire. Auditions 6 - 8 pm on two days: Aug 20 and Sep 5, 2008, in Ramsey Barn. Auditions will consist primarily of readings from the script, though actors may perform their own one-minute audition piece. All acting positions are limited-term paid positions. Final production will take place in October during our Autumn on the Farms event. Historic Educator and Farm Demonstrator Responsibilities:
  • using authentic methods, demonstrates and explains agricultural activities (field work with draft horses, livestock care and use of machinery, cutting wood, morning and evening chores, etc.) to school tours, day camp groups, educational programs and the general public
  • demonstrates and actively involves general visitors in hands-on activities
  • conducts education programs primarily through May and June and October for both children and adults as assigned
  • works closely with Historic Farmer to achieve site goals and projects consistent with the interpretive themes
  • fulfills agricultural plans, projects and goals on Historic Farmer's days off
  • staffs special weekend programs and winter season programs as scheduled
  • cares for livestock in assigned farm area, at the Animal Barn, and travels to care for animals in other areas as needed
  • studies and understands historical resource materials and other information provided
  • other duties as assigned by the 1900 Farm Agriculture Interpreter/Supervisor or Manager of Interpretive Farm Programs
Position Status/Benefits:
Seasonal position April to November (schedule includes working Saturday or Sunday); part-time hours available November to December (schedule depends on number of programs booked). State residency required. Valid driver's license required. Limited Term Employment position, $8.50-$9 per hour depending on experience.

Historic Educator and Domestic Demonstrator Responsibilities:
  • demonstrates and interprets the domestic program (cooking, gardening, food preservation, textiles, etc.) in a 19th-century farm site for school tours, day camp groups and the general public
  • demonstrates and actively involves general visitors in hand-on activities
  • conducts education programs primarily through May and June and October for both children and adults as assigned
  • contributes to the interpretation of a 19th-century farm by participating in the execution of farm and site special events
  • attends staff meetings and staff development workshops and training sessions
  • studies and understands historical resource materials and other information provided
  • conducts research to enhance site knowledge and programs as directed by Lead Interpreter or Curator of Interpretation
  • assists with routine site maintenance and cleaning

Day Camp Counselor
College junior status and above, with education background preferred. Work with children 8-17 in a unique outdoor setting. Camps run July 7-August 8, 2008.   • supervise and lead children in camp activities and assist them in completing crafts, games and other projects (carry paperwork on children at all times)
  • deal with minor first aid situations
  • set a good example while interacting with the campers, their parents, and Old World Wisconsin visitors
  • ensure that children have an enjoyable, action-packed camp session
  • assist the head counselor in keeping supplies organized and retrieving them and organizing them for activities throughout the day
  • take part in meetings and projects assigned for the session
  • supervised by Head Counselor and Education Coordinator
Qualifications:
Day camp counselors must be at least college junior level with a background in education. Must be energetic enough to keep pace with young children and to withstand the heat and humidity typical of outdoors work in the summer. Previous experience with children is a plus. Must be willing to learn historical information and techniques and possess enthusiasm for demonstrating it to youth. Good communication and interpersonal skills required. Previous experience working with volunteers of all ages helpful.
Position Status/Benefits:
Seasonal position. Hours are typically from 8 a.m. imtil 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Camps will run from July 7-August 8. Day Camp Counselors are asked to commit for the entire session. State residency required. Limited Term Employment position, starting at $7.50 per hour.

Old World Wisconsin Visitor Service Positions — 2008 Season

Cashier-Part Time
Old World Wisconsin is seeking a cashier for its museum shop and ticketing office. This position will include both weekday and weekend work with occasional evening work assigned. The ideal candidate will have cashiering, retail and customer service experience as well as excellent oral communication skills. Clausing Barn Restaurant Positions —2008 Season

Cook II
Opening for experienced cook to prepare ethnic meals, daily soups, and daily specials. This person would also be responsible for supervising line cooks and rotating stock. Knowledge of sanitation procedures helpful, but will train. Must be able to interact with customers. Possible advancement to chef status. Work 40 hours per week, Tuesday through Saturday. Occasional Sunday and evening work required.

Line Cook
Opening for individual with experience cooking fast foods, hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, etc. This person needs to have good people skills because they interact with customers. This person needs to be able to follow directions and work at a fast pace. Work 40 hours a week, flexible schedule but most weekends are required.

Bartenders
Opening for an experienced and licensed bartender. This person would mix drinks for weddings and banquets. Work schedule would be Friday and Saturday evenings, about 16 hours a week.
