Pierre Sidell with Jug
Pierre Sidell poses holding a small jug on her shoulder. She is wearing a face veil and headdress. From an undated (but probably 1922) article in the Kehl School of Dance scrapbook (M92-249): "Burning sands of the desert; spicy fragrance of Araby; persimmon moons that shine on gardens of the East; the dance of a slave girl for her master--all will be woven into the dance prologue to be given with the return showing of the Sheik at the Majestic [movie theater in Madison, Wisconsin]. "Miss Pierre and Billie Sidell, Central high school students, will give the dance of the Sheik, Pierre as the slave girl and Billie as the Master. They are students of Leo Kehl. "The Sheik costume is modeled from that worn by Rudolph Valentino of the picture. The silken surfaces of the slave girl's harem dress will catch the rosy lights flickering over the dancers as they portray the desert romance." |
