The Midwest Air Transport Co was established by five Madison investors in 1927. They rented a field at the end of North Street (office in 2500 block of Coolidge Street) near the Oscar Mayer plant, built a hangar, and began offering flight instruction and package delivery and passenger service. At the time this picture was taken the company had six employees and owned, in addition to the Cardinal above, a Travel Air, a Whirlwind, and a Gypsy Moth training plane. The Midwest Air Transport Company was out of business by 1933. After that, only limited flying took place at the Madison Airport. |
