The road was originally laid as a 36," narrow gauge track with maple rails, except for three miles of switches and side tracks, which were laid with iron rails. The locomotive, with some flat cars acquired at the same time, was used for construction purposes from Richland Center southward. The road had cost $66,508.10 by July 1, 1876, when the first passenger train ran from Richland Center to Lone Rock. The road was later relaid with iron rails and was eventually altered to standard width. In May, 1880, the road was sold to the Chicago, Milwaukee, & St. Paul Railway Co. This photograph was originally part of the collection of D.G. James of Richland Center. |
