Austin Adams
Lithographic portrait of Austin Adams, a lawyer who became an Iowa Supreme Court justice (1876-1892), Chief Justice of the Iowa Supreme Court (1880-1892), and regent of the State University of Iowa, where he also lectured on the subject of law (1875-1892). He organized the Dubuque Library Association, the Round Table philosophy club (1864-1884), and was the first chief justice of Iowa to allow women to practice law before the State Supreme Court. |
